LAN & WAN News

D-Link logo D-Link said it starting to use OpenDNS to add cloud-based parental controls to some of its routers.

OpenDNS is a cloud-based provider of DNS-based web content filtering, anti-phishing and DNS services.

Its parental controls divide websites into more than 50 categories, with adjustable filtering levels from “high” to “minimal”. OpenDNS controls also can block entire website categories.

D-Link said the first router with integrated OpenDNS is the DIR-657 HD Media Router. The next will be the DIR-645 Whole Home Router 1000 that starts shipping in August.

OpenDNS can also be manually added to any router by simply entering the IP address of the OpenDNS servers in the router's WAN DNS settings.
