Synology DS1511+Synology today announced a new five bay NAS that is expandable to a total of 15 drives.

The DS1511+ is an updated version of Synology's DS1010+ that accepts two DX510 expansion units for a total configuration of up to 15 drives. With 3 TB drives, the combination supports a total of 45 TB of unformatted storage.

The new NAS is based on a 1.8 GHz Intel D525 Atom CPU and 1 GB of DDR2 RAM that is user-expandable up to 3 GB. Ports include dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN that support failover and link aggregation, two eSATA and four USB 2.0. Synology specs the DS1511+' performance at 165.91 MB/sec write, 197.8 MB/sec read with link aggregation used.

It runs Synology's DSM 3.0 OS that includes iSCSI target and Active Directory support among its business focused features.

The DS1511+ will be priced "under $900" when it becomes available later this month.
