NAS News

Synology logoSynology has announced a "budget friendly" four-bay NAS.

The DS414j is the Home / SOHO "j" series NAS based on a dual-core processor and include USB 3.0. The hardware platform uses a 1.2 GHz MindSpeed Comcerto 2000 SoC with 512 MB of DDR3 RAM. (A 650 MHz version of the same processor powers WD's single-bay My Cloud.)

Synology says the new NAS will hit read / write throughput of 112 and 80 MB/s, respectively.

The four bays are not hot-swappable, but support 2.5" and 3.5" hard and solid state drives up to 5 TB. Drives can be configured in multiple volumes with types including Synology Hybrid RAID, volume per drive (Basic), JBOD and RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10.

LAN connection is via a single Gigabit Ethernet port and one each USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports support addition of external drives for backup.
