Synology logoSynology has announced an eight-bay expandable NAS with built-in 10GbE, based on a new ARM-based quad-core CPU.

The DS2015xs DiskStation is powered by a 1.7 GHz quad-core Annapurna Labs Alpine AL514 ARM-based CPU backed by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, expandable to 8 GB.

Network connection is via dual Gigabit Ethernet and two 10GbE SFP+ ports all of which support link aggregation. USB backup drives and printers can be attached via two USB 3.0 ports.

Eight hot-swappable drive bays accept 2.5" and 3.5" SATA II / III solid state and hard drives configurable in multiple individual, JBOD, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and Synology Hybrid RAID volumes that can be optionally encrypted. The 48 TB of raw internal storage can be expanded to a total 120 TB using a 12-bay DX1215 Infiniband-connected expansion unit.

Synology says the DS2015xs has achieved transfer speeds of up to 2000MB/s and up to 59,000 sequential IOPS in its benchmark testing.

The DS2015xs runs Synology's recently released DSM 5.1 operating system that supports a wide range of native features, expandable via downloadable apps. Features of particular note to the business users this NAS is intended for are SSD cache support, Windows AD, LDAP and Domain Trust support, iSCSI LUN backup, snapshot and cloning, support for Synology Central Management System (CMS), Synology High Availability storage clustering and support for VMware vSphere 5 with VAAI, Windows Server 2012 R2 and Citrix virtualization.

The DS2015xs will ship shortly with an MSRP of $1399.99 and is backed by a 5 year limited warranty
